London, 12 June 2020
400,000 self-care products have been delivered to frontline NHS staff across five of London’s hardest hit hospitals this week.
HEROES, the charity founded by NHS workers for NHS workers, worked with the Body Shop to make this mammoth task a reality and give back to frontline staff. The items donated include 60,000 luxury lip balms, 150,000 deluxe shower gels, 70,000 bars of scented soap, and a range of other wellbeing products, with the gifts delivered to NHS workers by the HEROES team.
HEROES has raised over £1 million since the outbreak of COVID-19, supplying nearly 100,000 frontline NHS workers with sustainable visors, scrubs, reusable respiratory masks, hand sanitisers, therapy services, financial grants, food supplies, transport, and now self-care products. The charity is committed to safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of those employed by the NHS by protecting the physical and mental health of NHS workers.
Dr Dilsan Yilmaz, Co-founder and CEO of HEROES, said: “Whilst the supply of PPE, food and financial aid are imperative to protect and support our NHS workers during these difficult times, self-care is equally important. Frontline staff have been tirelessly and selflessly caring for the nation and we are pleased to be able to provide them with these wellbeing products that, we hope, enable them to take a moment of care for themselves.”
Charmaine Yankey, Improving Working Lives Co-ordinator at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, said:“This is the largest donation we have received, which has enabled us to treat all our staff. It is wonderful to be pampered especially in these challenging times and you have given us an opportunity to feel both pampered and valued. It’s with an open heart that I thank you.”
Storage business Big Yellow Storage played a vital role in housing the products before they were delivered to the hospitals. Co-founder James Gibson said:“We are delighted to have been able to help HEROES in their endeavour to provide all-round support to NHS staff whilst they fight this pandemic.”
HEROES exists to support the welfare and wellbeing of those fighting to keep the nation healthy and safe during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. The charity’s services cover the physical, mental and day-to-day needs of all NHS staff, from doctors and nurses to cleaners and porters.
The charity is calling on businesses and the general public for continued support, with more information available at www.helpthemhelpus.co.uk
